For many of us, our sexual values are deeply rooted and are often linked to our core values. Sometimes we are aware of these values but other times we accept our early childhood and cultural programming with little understanding about the impact this has on us. Consider that our develop of gender and sexuality begin as early as infancy from the color of our room decor to the clothing we wear. TSWM Academy creates a space for you to understand these messages and communicate them to your loved ones.
While difficult to accept, most children will identify as sexual beings. Sex and the expression of our sexuality is hard-wired in our DNA for the purposes of survival. I usually ask parents who have this concern, “Is it easier to stop a river from flowing or to shape the direction in which it flows?” The obvious answer is to shape the direction it flows. Rather than attempt to contain your child’s sexual development, I encourage a combination of techniques from communicating honestly about what sex means to you, setting age-appropriate limits and boundaries and creating a safe environment to have these conversations. Your child will develop his or her own sexual values and this can occur with or without your influence. TSWM Academy is here to partner with you to be a part of this developmentally appropriate process.
Spoiler alert: Most children already want to have sex. Again, this is hard-wired in our DNA. Talking about sex does not condone sex. Talking about sex creates the opportunity to educate children on the significance of sex so that they can create a meaningful relationship with their own sexuality.
Absolutely not! Our training is intended to create a space for self-reflection so that YOU can decide how to proceed moving forward. At no point, will our training tell you what to do. We offer self-awareness, education, and tools.
Our trainings range in length from an hour and a half to two hours. Some modules may be more triggering than others and we encourage that you go at a pace that is comfortable to you.
Our trainings are intended as a resource and not a cure all. For example, if you and your partner have not had sex for an extended period of time or find that sex is a stressful topic in your relationship, you may benefit from talking to a counselor. Our course creator, Tara Spears, LMFT, LMHC, will make mention when it may be a good idea to seek outside support.
“Since I first met Tara as a Licensed Clinical supervisor, I was amazed at how deep her understanding of psychotherapy was, the clarity and fluency when sharing her knowledge, and the respectful and kind attitude towards her future colleagues, were unprecedented. As a clinician, her therapeutic skills, openness, and genuine care for her clients, make of her a highly effective and trusted professional. She is one of the colleagues to whom I refer with complete confidence”.

Tara’s practical information is an extremely helpful and easy to read resource for parents/caretakers that cuts right to the chase in offering great information on important topics that pertain to talking to children and teens about sex. I love the information on sexual development, warning signings, and abuse prevention.
